There are quite a few pictures available on the old luger forum...it's funny, that after looking at them for a while, you can almost start to figure out which ones may be legit, and which ones seem to be absolute fakes (even without seeing the barrels or receivers).

A recent item posted for sale...I can find none of the hallmarks of being reworked short of the magazine, which given the fonts and rather crude effort, I believe is legit. No police or other history evident.

I do find the area right below the serial number on the receiver of interest. The horizontal finishing marks are odd and it's hard to tell if something may have been there beforehand. The Erfurt proof there is intact though, and looks like it has been stamped through the grind marks. So appears it left the factory that way.

This is the same fake skull seen in post #12.

As for the grind marks, late WW1 Lugers can be a little rough around the edges.
