Luft/Heer double depot rework

This is a very unique 243 1940 i block that been reworked by both the Luftwaffe and the Army. It shows repairs by both LZA2 and HZa Posen, and it is pretty difficult to sort out who did what.

It looks like LZA2 was probably first with a new GeCo barrel, and the Posen rework came later with a new 'c' stock, bands (I think), and a salvaged 1938 Sauer bolt. Somehow, the original triggerguard appears to have survived all of this work but the screws are replaced and look like they have LZA2 font. The matching handguard has what looks like old whitewash on the inside which is interesting.

Also, just a reminder that I still need one of you jerks to find an LZA2 depot build to confirm my suspicions on which LZAs are which numbers.

Thanks for the detailed pics of such an interesting example, talk about a rifle that must have had a hard service life, two depot visits with major repairs at both, really neat to see something like this.

This is a very unique rework, multiple reworks are common, but not multi branch like this. Awesome!

Very very cool rifle. I’m just slowly absorbing depot information. Definitely some much more unique and tricky stuff. Thanks for sharing it.

I love that you got this one! Your pics and description are far better than the seller’s were. Thanks for taking the time to post it for us to ogle!

Thanks all. I was happy to get this myself. LZA2 reworks are not exactly common.

Really nice rifle, I really wonder how the Heer ended up with it. Must have been misplaced by the Luftwaffe during the fog of war.

Nice depot/rework. Congrats Ryan. Since Luft. ground troops were incorporated into Heer command and supply by about late 1943, it makes sense that there would be K98ks like this. I’d think psn was later. One of my LZA2s is a bet bringback e/L byf 41. Most of my LZAs are 4s.
