Well there you go. Thank you DF and Pisgah. My other bcd 4 Mz 8 repair has no such H marking. Farb and I spoke today and it seems as if this H marking is confined to foreign / non-standard rifles reworked/repaired at Mainz.

Reworked Mz8 K98k with the large number and H2 from a recent auction. Interesting that mrfarb's new Mainz M1924 seems to lack both....
