Really? I’m rather fond of the handle. Not a big fan of the plate it’s mounted too though. That thing is borderline sheet metal.34's are a great gun to have extra parts (actually I guess all belt fed guns). Once you get the right combo of parts in the receiver they run great. Ours took some trial and error too. I'm not sure what the 3R life of a 34 was, but it had to have been better than an mg42 being all machined. The biggest weak spot for me on the 34 is the dainty charging handle. Too thin and frail in a couple spots
What was really really fun is that at some point the hinge on the top cover on this one had been bent open, just enough where the top cover would stay on, but enough where the feed prawls didn’t make good consistent contact with the rounds. So all I’d get is nonstop failure to feed issues. Between fixing that and stripping 8000lbs of dried grease out of it and regreasing it it runs really well. Tons of fun with the lafette mount it’s on now too. My backstop hates me for what i’m doing to it though.
Wish mg34s were easier on brass ammo tho.
