New K98B/ S28 Rifle

Yeah they sure marked them all over! If you didn’t see it, the trigger and sear are also both typically s28 marked as well.

As discussed before in another thread, this receiver also has the MO internal inspection, curious.

Very nice! I also have one that is all matching but bolt (mismatch S28 bolt) and unsanded stock. Welcome to the S28 club!

What are the markings on the right side of the rear sight base and can you show the numbers on the keel of the buttstock? :)(y)

See if any of these pictures satisfy what you want to see. It is from an old thread when I first got mine

these are pictures i have on my pc. I dont see any other numbers on the rear sight base.

And not that it matches the rifle, I was able to hook up with a kind member who sold me a complete S28 marked bolt.
I think the body is not marked with an S28 but all remaining pieces are and numbered to match the body. I don't know any more than that.

Hi there,

I see this thread is a bit older, but maybe I can add something useful.
As we know that the S28s are made in the 20ies, the Weimar era marking regulations will apply here. So "J.R. 10" would be Infantry regiment 10, which was based in Dresden in Saxony. Unfortunately, the company of JR 10 to which this fantastic rifle was attributed to is not indicated here.
Great rifles shown here! Thanks!

Hey "J",
Is there a bat 6 or a crown O on the front of the front sight base? :) (y)
Forgive me ,but I can't help but ask ; What is that webbed sling you have on there?

Might just be the angle on the photo, but has the barrel been shortened slightly on your example? The overall photo almost looks like the bayonet lug to muzzle dimensions are off. Compare to the OP's photo of same area. A measurement of the barrel would probably tell.

You had me going for a minute. It was the angle of the photo. It is shown next to my 98b. it was not altered

It was the original sling that was on the gun when purchased. Believe it was a satchel strap that was rigged to it probably not issued that way. Sorry for long reply time haven't been on to check post in a while. Will add some pics later. 😁

Thanks "J",
I was curious about the type of webbing, that it might be German webbing or any kind of "Last Ditch" Volksturm arrangement since we have seen photos of them with Gewehrs of different types It wouldn't be too shocking if they ended up with a few 98b's. The marking on the front of the front sight base would also be cool if time permits.

I wondered the same about the sling too. It had been held in with a couple of small nails. Here is the pics of the front sight base.20220102_052731.jpg20220102_052838.jpg
