IMO the finish and stock look a little toyish but if the price is right and it works well it could be a great way to get a working replica without spending an arm and a leg. I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

Agreed, looks like they've grabbed the HMG rifles.
I'm confident it'll be a screw up. But I'm also confident that PSA will take that as a challenge and make them work right.

Anything related to HMG is bound to be a ****show. Won't be dumping my PTR-44 anytime soon.

I love the American eagle on the side of a German clone. Classic.

The company that brought you cast AK trunnions that squish and crack is now teaming up with HMG, the company that doesn’t actually bring you anything. This should be good. lol.

Are PSA Ak's that bad? I've never owned one but I've heard positive things, albeit from somewhat amateur gun enthusiasts.

I’ve heard they resolved the issues, but yes, for a while PSA was selling their own in house made AKs using cast trunnions that would squish and crack like Lego bricks.

Just in case some aggressive individual tries to raise a stink in ten years with this post, here is proof. Apparently PSA was telling people that it was normal for a trunnion to deform and flake. It’s just how they break in or something and it eventually stops, supposedly.

Reddit link, apologies.

Screenshot from their official forum. I’ll note that they’ve since changed their trunnions to a forged type…. For some unknown reason…. I’m sure it was entirely unrelated to issues like this as well as demands from customers.

I'll wait till I see one in hand. Depending on appearance I'll buy one. Here's a story from the past. I was in LE for about three years living with my buddy from college days. He was in the Guard as a 1st Lt. I come home from work and my buddy says he got a new rifle. He said he traded an extra Smith K-22 for the deal. He opens his closet door to show me his new piece. It was a STG 44. In better than nice shape. I was horrified. The first thought through my head was loosing my job and ending my career. I yelled at him to get that the F out of our apartment. He did and I never knew how it went away.

If that happened today, I'm not sure how it would turn out.

So it appears that fat guy from Hill & Mack is now involved with PSA.. Not a confidence builder in my opinion! Already they have pushed back availability date to end of 2023. Not holding my breath

Unless you just want a rifle that kinda-sorta looks like a StG-44, I really don't get the point of this thing.

Neither do I, guys that buy this stuff are collectors and history buffs meaning the gun has to look like an exact copy. Anything that doesn't look original detracts from it.

Just look at the AK community and how they want things on an AK to look a certain way for originality.

I hope they just redesign it to look more original and I'm sure they'd sell like hotcakes.

I've actually seen in comments of articles or YouTube videos a lot of interest and willingness to purchase the rifle. I agree with k98dave that it probably will sell well if they make a well enough functioning rifle. I mean the STG44 is a very well known and at least aesthetically/historically well liked rifle so I'm sure the offer of buying a look a like for around the 2000-3000 price point is probably going to make a lot of enthusiasts interested in it.

But its a shame they altered some parts of the design for reasons I don't know. I'm interested in knowing why they gave the action a safety notch like that on the MP40 and why the magazine release is on the wrong side. The rear iron sight looks wrong too.
