If you have the time, you might consider creating a written narrative for each one cataloging all of the components and it’s history. I’ve done that for my WWII firearms (currently 32 pages). I figure that whenever my son inherits them, he will have something to help him identify the pieces and price them if he decides to sell.

I love the look of those old wool uniforms. Did you find them complete like that or assemble them?
I do not believe in "reassembling" uniforms / nor do I have the skill to do it right.

Besides too many sharks sell put together uniforms as 100% original, and I would be loath to have my name muddied by resorting to doing the same.

That is not to say that all my uniforms are 100% WW2 period construction, and that is because many have only been in my possession for 20 - 50 years, and I have no knowledge ,or control over them, or what was done to them, prior to my ownership.

However NOT ONE has been altered, added to, or modified by me since I bought them.

If it did not look right, I did not acquire it.

The vast majority were purchased privately, or from Turks, while I was stationed in Germany, prior to 1987......

Oh wow, I didn’t know that assembling a correct uniform was frowned upon. I hope my ignorance didn’t unintentionally offend you.

I guess I was thinking about it from the standpoint of if my kids were to put the shoulder boards, awards, etc on my old uniforms after I am gone, I would consider them complete, original and correct since I did the same when I wore it.

I apologize again If I offended you.

Wonderful Dave. That quality is not seen much today 👍🏼
Thank you / I still have an Austrian officer's uniform, that was Nazified, that I bought from you many many years ago at the old David Cook militaria show in Dallas. That has to be almost 40 years ago.

I will dig it out and post it......

Good old Dave Cook. He hosted great shows back in the day. Was always patient and kind with me as a pup. He hooked me up many times on really good 3R items (field gear and mg items). He also taught me the lesson of staying true to the gentleman's agreement. That was a hard and embarrasing lesson for a 14 year old but it stuck and I've been true to that unwritten rule since.

Dave ran an excellent show and was always first class when doing business with him.

My wife spent hours talking to him, and considered him a true gentleman from the old school.

His untimely death was a shock .

Really nice items, especially the wraps. It must have been an interesting collecting experience where, who and time frame you got these.

Dave if you don't mind me asking how do you properly store your uniforms? I only have two. I would like to have them on display one day. But need to properly keep them stored, and sealed for protection until that happens.

Keep your home clean and insect free. climate control is vital. inspect for insect damage routinely. Never keep the uniform in a dirty state. Dirt invites damage.

Thank you for the advise. Would putting one of my tunics in a leather sealed suit protector. Is that a good way to protect them?

I do not think sealing in anything cloth is a good idea, fabric needs to breathe.

Leaving things hanging on regular coat hangers eventually leads to damage.

This shown below keeps weight evenly distributed.
