hi all, i ran across a Walther KKW while on the road. I bought it as i have been wanting a KKW. I wasnt crazy about the bolt handle scallop, kinda odd shaped, but looking online i did see some variation in the shapes, but nothing as different as this one. Anyways i got it home and disassembled. Gun sn is 338S, stock and hg marked 888. I thought maybe a factory error? However then i found this

338S was sold with a bubbaed stock recently. now im wondering if the stock thats on it now is legit or a fox / some other repop. the stocks in almost too good condition, but has significant darkening where the bands mount.

anyways if i swung and missed on this one thats ok, please let me know your thoughts on the stock. ill post full rifle pix when i get it back together next week

TIA!

My take on it is that it's the same original stock and someone filed the "artwork" off the sides of the stock and then refinished it. That's what caused the slab sided effect and the deformed bolt relief cut. What you have is the result of the work of two different Bubba's molesting the same rifle. o_O 😵

i think u nailed it! i can see where the buttplate was filed to fit the recontoured stock. compared to a k98 stock its now obvious how its been flattened.

while its not what i wanted in my first trainer itll do. at least i dont need to sweat dragging it around and shooting it. while i agree its a double bubba its also kind of a save, as it doesnt present badly. i have printed out the auction pix of the stock before its transformation and im keeping it with the guns information.

Walther KKW 338S
