Walther (W) S/N 7373

Repo Field Gear Collector
This is my favorite 41, I got it a couple of years ago, it needs a magazine still, just robbed another one for pictures. If anyone has a loose Walther mag or a parts rifle with one, let’s talk. I have a very early 1943 and it has a few part numbering differences even being relatively close to this one interestingly.

Gorgeous rifle! Too bad about the mag. Here’s something interesting. Yours is my highest reported “(W)” rifle so far In my listings. I have G.41 ac #7254 starting G.41 standard rifle production. Yours is now reported after that one. I have no further (W) rifles going forward after yours. G.41 ac #7540 is next and it is shown on page 308 in the book “The German Sniper” by Peter R. Senich for comparison.

That’s interesting Kelly thanks for the info, I appreciate it. The seller shot himself in the foot on this one, he wouldn’t check if the bolt matched at all, had to gamble it!

Thanks Georg, yeah that is a neat detail. So between this gun and a two digit 1943 the parts that are numbered and subsequently dropped on the 43 are; handguard, op-rod, bands, safety. There are probably more changes internally, but I haven’t taken it apart.

I know the rear band is upside down of course, but the sling, which happens to be a clg 44 is quite dried in place and will probably suffer some damage if I try to remove it.

wonderful un touched rifle... funny so many of these are missing mags ?? Really odd.

These early Walthers are probably my favorite G41w's

Thanks guys, and it is odd for sure Wayne. Hopefully one day I can get it back to complete. I can’t recall off the top if this one has bearings in the locking lugs or not but that would be another interesting detail to trend.
