WWII German water Tank??? or what is it??

Hi, just found the site. Ok, can anyone id this water tank? The cover is wool with buttons. The tank is aluminum, with a brass ½ turn valve on the side. There are zero marking on it. The top cap is a ½ turn locking type and it is not threaded. It is 14 x 14 x 6. I do not know if this is German WWII issued, or another country.

From the buttons, cover, and construction, I'd say it's Italian. WW2 or postwar I can't tell. Italian stuff is usually unmarked.
