1944 Dated, RBN Marked German Frog: Made for Bayonet Other Than 98k? . . . Maybe VZ24

The frog shown below is marked 44 along with an RB number. It’s different than most 98k bayonet frogs I’ve seen and owned. My pictures, comparing this frog to a standard 98k bayonet frog (this frog is on the left), show a notable difference in the size and shape of its opening for the bayonet. The only thing I can think of is that it was made for the VZ24 bayonet, as shown in my last picture. The 98k bayonet is very tight going into this frog and I would really have to force it to go all the way in (which I did not do). Any thoughts on this?

Sam

If I had to guess, I'd say it's just an unissued standard frog. Leather shrinks with age depending on storage, and these were intended to be tight when installed, even stretching a little. I bet if you forced a K98 bayonet in there it would fit, tightly, and never come off. Just my opinion.

I dont like the stitching same as the front pouch, its probably a repair, the hole is not functionally.
