42 1940 Feedback

Won this rifle over weekend. 1940 42 K98k with bolt mismatch. Everything appears kosher, but would like some 2nd opinions in case I need to use the 3-day return policy. It shows up tomorrow, so should be able to take it down further. The only "issues" I can see is the stock has a E/63 recoil lug and E/63 takedown disk, which aren't really issues considering 1940 was the transition year from E/63 to E/655. Any feedback appreciated!

Wow it looks to me like you got a really nice buy. I like the rifle, especially at that price! I agree about the e/63 parts and I wouldn't sweat them either. Congrats!

Rifle showed up and stock and hand guard are confirmed matching! Barrel code is 40Do106 and the wood is 3 18 40 Bo. Only E/63 parts are the recoil lug and one of side of the takedown disk. Everything else, including the screws is E/655. Thanks for all the advice! Pics to come!

I'm no longer the guy with the sharpest eyes but.. extractor collar.jpg

I feel like none of these are an issue and are original and correct. I think the small parts bin theory where assemblers at each station had their parts replenished by another worker with a large cart who refilled their bins. A few remaining 'older' parts would be buried under several dozen/hundred 'newer' ones. Still a very nice rifle at a great price IMHO.

Man I'm an idiot. I just realized this was a bolt m/m.
:googlie

None of these were deal breakers to me. I figured this was the case, especially with 1939/40 being a changeover year. If it were a different factory's waffenamt, then it would be an issue. 1940 appealed to me since they seem pretty uncommon. If I got an all matching for that price, I'd be ecstatic! The bolt is E/63, which is a nice touch

Congratulations on this one. Very nice looking example with decent bluing still. A real keeper for sure!!
