AX/AR double code

Too bad, considering rc prices, but it did have hurdles to overcome with the cut barrel... capitalistic sellers (those that specialize in buying cheap and selling dear) and flippers are often unpopular but they are often the best resources for trends data, sellers like elite produce a byproduct (facts) that far exceed their greed. Most here ridicule their methods but I find them very useful... better than sellers that make buyers gamblers who must guess at what you are bidding on.

I will take the side of a greedy bastard that shows what he is selling than a lazy cheapskate making buyers guess at what is offered.

I got it, should be here by next week. I’m pretty excited about this one. I don’t collect matching guns, I collect codes so I’m excited to add this to the collection. Also if anyone had one I would love photos of the complete gun thank you

Given that the barrel is chopped - and unnumbered - it might be worth going full on for the restoration. I can see arguments either way.

I’m not really sure what I’m going to do with it, I’m either going to have to find someone capable of scabbing on the the end of the barrel or I’m going to have to rebarrel it.

It's probably the original barrel; ultimately this is a practical option but likely one prone to "forgetfulness",,,,

I would be more positive about the option if the right barrel could be found but this would increase the likelihood of "forgetfulness" down the line.

Description for Item # 480205420

For Sale

WW2 German Mauser k98 98k ax/ar dual code zf-41 sniper made in 1941 kar98k zf41

This scarce ar/ax dual coded barreled receiver was made in 1941. It is not import marked. The metal is in nice condition with the sharp and clear markings. It’s serial numbered 8924l. The triggerguard and floorplate are also numbered 8924. The trigger is numbered 24. The rear sight bed and ladder are both numbered 2815. The barrel code is 218 41 cyw. The barrel has the early flat-sided zf-41 sniper scope base set up for the zf-41 scope mount with flat roller bearings. (Please see photos). The metal is in very good condition. The bore looks to be in very nice shape. The barrel appears to have been shortened. An original k98 barrel is 610mm long. This barrel is 540mm long. I’m not sure why this was done or by whom or when. The quality of the workmanship appears professional. The front of the front sight base has a small Nazi eagle mark.

I’m selling this rifle as a collector’s item. I have never fired it. As with any surplus military firearm, it must be checked by a qualified gunsmith prior to firing. A standard 3 day non-firing inspection period applies less actual shipping. Damage due to improper disassembly, parts swapping or modification voids the inspection period. Payment in the form of money order only please. A signed copy of FFL or C&R is required for purchase. Please include $25 for shipping and insurance via US Priority Mail to the lower 48 states. All local, state and federal laws apply.

Auctions without bids are subject to early closure.

I would be more positive about the option if the right barrel could be found but this would increase the likelihood of "forgetfulness" down the line.

Like I said, I see both sides of it. If this was a LSR action with a butchered barrel I don't think we'd hear many people arguing against putting it back in military trim. A search of the sniper forum here will turn up a number of examples of these weapons being pieced together.

Given the rarity of this rifle, I think its unlikely that it's history is going to be forgotten any time soon, or that it will escape the notice of a serious collector.

I have a spare Erma barrel from 1938 that I could use but it would need blued. Also I wounder what happend to the rear sight base because it no longer has the zf41 base.
