bayonet S 244,36, the star stamp

Hello,bayonet S 244,36 Stamps and the star is between the 2 WaA(243) of the pommel.Matching serial numbers on the bayonet and bakelite grips, flashguard and press stud, pommel block,painted with red paint.Number 82 on the end of the pommel and hilt. Which means stamp the star,rework?,prof mark ?

Interesting bayonet. I would guess a rework/refurb. The straight wing WaA s on the pommel is different. The S/244 36 s I have seen all had droop wing. Looking forward to see what Andy has to say about this one.

Already correctly answered, in 1936 they by Mundlos firstly used wood grips, secondly the acceptance was WaA219 and old shape of eagle, this bayonet was serialed correctly in k range but not accepted so the one WaA219 with star, sometimes they used 8 point like flower stamp,or starburst, as WaA243 was started to applied in late 1938, so the grips and new acceptance was added mostly post 1938.unfortunally heavily cleaned piece.b.r.Andy

82 on pommel and tang speaks for refurbishment, WaA243 on crossguard looks like overstamped over older one, but it could be they used older type of eagle proof, even not seen in 1937, so 1938 correspond already with WaA243 and straight wing eagle. b.r.Andy

Yes its untypical but when there is clear WaA243 under older eagle form, anyway i saw 38 pieces with straight wing eagle WaA243 in middle parts between circles in plastic grips.b.r.Andy
