ax - hole
Well another year almost gone and another one about too begin. Have too say for myself this has been a wonderful year for me. Have bought three pieces just in this year alone for my collection that took me years too finally get the right ones. Some were just plain luck, others were part of the hunt, and some were due too good friendships made with many fine members here.

Out of all the pieces I have bought this year. These are my best finds for 2017. I hope you guys have enjoyed seeing them posted here as much as I enjoy owning them.

You found quality this year! No doubt about it! Such a great haul!

Thank you but I know many members here found just as equal hauls in quality as I have. Have too say the Kornbusch is probably one of my favorites in my collection. The time and effort it took too finally find one and own one. Not too mention a collector friend going out of his way too make it happen. Have too say I felt like Ralphie from the Christmas Story when that brown package was being unwrapped by me when I got home from work!

Well you stole my thunder! Was just about to start this annual thread. Anyways, best find is probably this 1/44 colt carried from the battle of the bulge through the end of the war by a LtCol and battalion commander of the 3rd battalion 84th division (railsplitters). In his memoirs he writes about the challenges he faced taking command of a decimated battalion on December 16 ‘44. Came with his identified helmet, uniform, and a hoard of german souvenirs including the ‘17 VCS I posted earlier.

Other than that I picked up two 41 colts, one early one late. Had been looking for years and lightening struck twice.

I bet, Jordan! I would’ve been too! My hauls are much more sedate. A German-reworked Vz.23 and a Gew.98 that seems a mite controversial. Def getting mixed opinions on that one, here and elsewhere!

You didn't post the 17 VCS Gew98 up that was an incredible find. Of course I like the history that ties with your 1911 you picked up. Really cool glad too see you get some nice items Rob.

Great hall! Especially on the Gew 98 front, didn't know you found a straight Imperial WMO 1917 that one is tough for sure!

Those are some incredible finds guys, especially that M1911A1 with its owner’s story, wow. What a piece of history! Of course that G41 is pretty sweet too.

My best score was a bnz43 SS contract resto project, it has no firing proof and no final acceptance. I’ve been wanting one for a while so that was exciting.

This won't really appeal to many people here, but I finally turned up a copy of the the unit history for the 3rd Armored Division's HQ company. It was published right after WW2, for a unit of about 150 men. The survival rate had to have been pretty low, and I am aware of 4 in existence, two of which are in libraries. I was told that it would be really hard to find a copy for myself, but I flashed a wad of money and one turned up for sale. I was chasing this thing because I have a few items from one of the unit's commanders, and I needed this to tie it all together. He is pictured, as is the great bulk of the rest of the unit.

Cool finds, I have my dads book for the history of the 6th armored div. It was published right after the war. I will have to take some pics and post them.
For me my best find was my first German helmet. It’s a very early m35 dd police. Thanks to mauser99 for confirming it was legit. It has the original liner, strap and is named.

Same here..by pure luck I had a 1925 "dated" Simson Karab98b fall into my lap. Completely matching other than a bolt m/m and in fantastic shape! I worked on a customer's vehicle at my auto shop and he traded me this rifle for payment. I almost said no deal to it, b/c I had never seen a k98b in person and thought it was just a Gew98 at first glance.

The G29ö, S/42G and BNZ 42 need some restoration work and the 1940 147 needs a duffle cut repair, so I guess I have some 2018 projects

Very nice Hungarian collection! I have recently become rather interested in Hungarian arms, and would like to put a small collection together myself, only one of mine is pre 45 at the moment, a 98/40, but I also got an amd-65 and a gkk-45 this year and love them both! I am completely unfamiliar with that 38m trainer, it looks intriguing, I’ll have to research it.
