Wonder why they did some in black? This one came on an early 1945 rifle... that is, IMO, orig to the rifle.

Recycling leather scraps. You'll see them in smooth black dyed from frog and other leather scraps and pebbled from K98k ammo pouch leather scraps.

I have pieces of black pebbled leather being used on sling parts as well.. and other places.

Scraps from map cases and ammunition pouches. That was all conserved and reused, particularly later.

That looks like a meat two tone sling. Hahaha
