Boredom killer thread, post you favourite rifle. The absolute last you’d sell.

I’m bored at work. Let’s just have a little fun. Post your favourite 98k or German used firearm. Like your ride or die, the absolute last one you’d sell and why.

No posting 1/2/3 etc. You gotta make a choice and post one. Haha I know it will be tough. I guess you could pick a piece of militaria as well if that’s what you prefer, but one item only!

Mine is my first no letter , full stock bcd4 phosphate. When I was a noobie, “phosphate” and “published” were words reserved for fancy high up American collectors. Haha. Well this one is phosphate, and published in Vol3, and excellent condition. Beautiful tone of phosphate. Matching, untouched. I would sell every other rifle first. I have rarer guns now and lots more phosphate but this one will never leave.

Sadly my early photos are so damned bad I won’t even post one. But photos are encouraged.

Wow that is a tough one Andrew because I have many rifles in my collection that would be extremely hard to let go from the Imperial era to the Nazi era. From my beloved Navy marked gewehr 98, my two Kornbusch gewehr 98 rifles, and many more. Some took over six years to find at least one example to get in my collection. But if I had to say one that I would never let go that would be my first production year 337 1939 dated rifle. That amazingly survived and went through the entire war and is still all matching you can definitely tell it was a combat use piece.

And it's not mainly because how rare the rifle is why I wouldn't want to let it go but it was because how lucky I was to have found it. It was literally sitting on a table at a gun show. Plus it was all my years of knowledge and learning that allowed me to be able to purchase this rifle and to know how rare it was. I didn't have anybody look at the rifle for me before I bought it. It was mainly I had to buy it or let it go and I had to make that decision. Definitely one of my favorites!

Boredom killer....

Impossible to do....lol. The rifle is actually one that I did sell to appease a now ex-wife....it was the right thing to do, but the wrong rifle to sell, correct/original G43 sniper. I'm guessing the one that got away more often than not might be the one you'd never sell for a lot of people, in retrospect... But I'll do one and two with pistols.... 1) AC41 Walther P38, my first "real" (non import) P38, 2) Luger 1918/20 that is published in Don Maus' book "History Writ in Steel." Chris....

Nearly impossible to choose. Perhaps my FN Lithuanian contract, Model 24.L. An auction find. Poorly described and photographed with only a side view of a sliver of the FN crest. The rear sight ladder stopping at “19” convinced me to roll the dice. A German rework and nearly certain to be a bring back that undoubtedly had an interesting journey.

This is a super tough question because the answer changes a lot. But I think my favorite is bcd45 14066. It’s the nicest one I’ve ever seen, odd size laminate, I got it from Bruce (it’s really how we met, trading guns, and set in motion the book series) and just cool. Plus 45 dated. Heres pics, sorry the other one always shows up in pics with it.

GTFO! You've got consecutive serial numbered pieces? Most certainly taken right off the assembly floor, yes? They are amazing!

They weren’t even found together! It’s a pretty good story. Maybe Mike will tell it.

Bruce should tell it, he got them together. Him selling these was the by product of his start of only collecting Mauser. I just benefited. Lol.

You only said German used so I’m going commercial! As much as I love military rifles, it’s this 110yo 9mm JP Sauer at the moment, I don’t believe I’ve ever owned a higher quality rifle.

Easy for me. Dad's bringback 1940 243 rifle. Really a treasured heirloom to have. Love those above pictured consecutive numbered rifles. Seems incredible!

this is easy for me as well. Like Mike I'm a late war guy, and finding this was like hitting the Kreigsmodell trifecta! Local estate/garage sale find; and that's the case that I got it in and I think it spent most of it's like in. Look close and you can see the price written on the case in marker (the "$100 bayonet" that was with it was already gone). it was in the case when I got there, and as I pulled it out I saw KM buttplate and got excited, walnut stock and more excited, "BYF 45" on the reciever better still, then turned it over and saw the Zf-41 rail. Better than the lottery. it looks unfired, and I haven't touched it or turned a screw. Got a couple rust spots too from contact with the wool lining but I'm not touching them either. whoever does get this after me will get exactly what I found, as I found it.

You have to let me keep 2! I can't split them up!

I guess if it was like life or death, 43852 would stay. Despite my love of byf44's, this is one of my favorites for sure. It's such a great example and it was purchased in the company of friends and great times at SOS.

That's a killer example. I've looked at the pics several times in the older thread and admired it. The Sauer armorers spare bolt is super cool.

You guys posting consecutives on a thread where you can only keep ONE rifle is just brutal :googlie

Tough question. I think the absolute last gun to go would be my SS SSR

You consecutive rifle guys are killing me!
My last to go would be my first: a restored sporter '38 S147 that my dad found for me at a show we were working. That rifle started this problem, er, obsession.

Probably this, as it’s the only complete (but non matching optic) one I will probably ever have.
