Gentlemen - got this over the holidays and wanted to post for review. It's all matching, almost mint (depot queen?) very well stored and taken care of rifle. I know these byf44's are fairly common, but It's the latest and best condition K98 I've owned, although admittedly I've only ever had a few and all previous rifles were vet buys in much saltier condition. WA135 on metal and stock. I'm curious about the barrel code, as my earlier matching rifles have the same SN throughout. Barrel is stamped "87" butt plate is subcontractor stamped "gqm 44". Thank you in advance for any insight!

very nice ! love k98k's in this type of condition. congrats !!!!

not much to add. the rifle is pretty textbook.. They stayed pretty consistent till the h and i block of 44

Thanks guys!

Beautiful example, where did you manage to find it? Maybe I start looking for byf 44s myself since matching pre war K98ks are quite uncommon.

A friend spotted it at an auction by chance and tipped me off. A '44 rifle hadn't been on my wishlist, but it was too nice to pass up.

Thanks guys!

Might want to buy your friend a drink for helping you find this beauty. How much did this one run you if you don't mind me asking?

This is an exceptionally nice example. It would be very difficult to upgrade. I’m betting your inbox is about to fill up with messages from members asking if you’d be willing to sell it. Definitely buy your buddy a beer… or maybe a case.

Absolutely amazing example of a decently early ‘44 byf. Personally, I think you did just fine price wise. Guys are paying similar amounts for rifles in way saltier condition.

Thanks for the comments all. Really nice to hear price was decent, since I'm not really in tune with the market (I'm still stuck on 2015 prices in my head).

Yeah. I think back to the early 2000’s when I passed up nice rifles offered by a surplus store for $200 and $300 because I was afraid my (now late) wife would kick my a$$ when I brought one home!
