Cleaning Rod Issue

My two cleaning rods came in today and I put them in the guns. Only problem is they don't screw in to a secure hold. Guessing it's just because of how old the rifle is and the threads are worn out? Thoughts?

More than likely someone tried to force rods with the wrong threads, common in reproduction rods or the rods you have are reproduction.

Now the you may have built up grease and dirt blocking the threads and preventing the rods from going in, or you may have a duffel cut that someone put a piece of metal / wood peg into to keep both parts together.

Be careful with those jacked up repro rods. The threads are sometimes off and the metallurgy poor, so they want to strip your rod nut in the stock, break, fun stuff like that.

Right, if the rod and nut are original German WWII, the threads are in nice shape, and the rod channel is open, then the rod should be easy to screw in.
