The frog is excellent, most real a police frog, that was send to LW by his starting, full name of Fl.HorstKommandatur, Wilhelmshaven, even other LW stamps, LBA and Company stamps.excellent. The bayonet should be matching with scabbard it could be wrong die by 8 or 9, so it looks like 5588 was there.b.r.Andy

Nice bayo & with an exceptional frog as well. C & J is a tough one to find. In fact, I have seen more nice C & J commercials than military contract examples. Regarding the serial numbers, because 8 & 9 can sometimes be confused, it is a good possibility when the scabbard was originaly mated with bayonet, 5588d was used in error for bayonet 5598d and scabbard 5598d was mated with bayonet 5588d. Of course this might have happened shortly after issuance, too, but both pieces look to have been together for a long time. The frog has just about everything one would hope to find on a early (1935) example...even brass rivets...!

Great rig in so many ways. I also love the frog. It's got so much going for it and the condition is outstanding. Anyone think the scabbard may have been whitewashed?

It could be the scabbard has a wintercamo white paint , but was removed in time, like mentione Mike the mouth screw is probably a replacement.b.r.Andy
