That's a vz24 front sight protector. This one probably came out of Romania where it was reworked after the war--and probably how it ended up with the vz protector as Romania had tons of vz24--with any stamp that even hinted at Nazism hammered out by the Communists.

Thanks, I kept looking at web sites to see where that site came from, I really like this front site as opposed to the hooded site, the rifle has a Geco barrel, all matching wood, the blue under the handguard looks like new with just some marks from rubbing on the stock, there was a lot of cosmoline down in the magazine well of the rifle, the rifling is sharp and shiny, and it shoots well, what are the rifles like these worth?
Are they that unusual, I have been buying rifles out of this collection that a vet is selling he was moved to one of our commie states, and couldn't take them with him, and it seems that each rifle is a bit unusual, so I have been looking them over, I have bought it, a SAR-1, a Persian Mauser, and a Yugo M48, there are more k98s there very mismatched, but am wondering if there is something about them that I am overlooking

IMO, the Romanian rework erases much of the value unfortunately. Does the stock match internally? The exterior stock number was added after the war.

Yes the stock matches, so the stock is Romanian also, so it may have had a matching bolt at one time before reworked, so it looks like it was German, Polish, German, Romanian, what a life!
