Hello everyone! I am brand new to this forum, and to the k98. I recently bought this rifle marked DOU 42 at a military vehicle show because it seemed like a fair deal to me. All the numbers I can find match except the bolt assembly, and the stock has been cut under the barrel band which as I understand should make it a vet captured rifle. The serial number reads 945 with an “i” underneath. I fired it once in my backyard, so I assume it is safe to fire (didn’t know if I should be concerned about head spacing with a mismatched bolt). The stock has accumulated years of grime and I would like to look for markings, so how should I clean it without harming it? I was just looking for something historically significant I can take to the shooting range so I hope I didn’t pay too much! Any hints or knowledge would be greatly appreciated! -Thanks!
