G 98/40 Unit markings on Stock... Any idea which unit???

Hi,

I've had this 98/40 for a very long time and it is all matching. My questions is: Does anyone know what these unit markings on the stock mean? Back when I got it another collector gave some basic info and said it was mountain unit. anyone have any info for the exact name of the unit? Thanks

I always hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the bolt is humped up on that rifle. The Nazi eagle stamp is fraudulent, as are the "unit markings". Even if the unit marks were real, the location of them is all wrong (the Germans stopped unit marking stuff when the war broke out or before).

I doubt very much that the bolt and stock were messed with. I got this from an estate where I paid $200 for the rifle, so I don't see the point in adding or messing with the rifle to make no money out of it.
