G98/40 Front Sight Hood

I’ve just discovered the G98/40 (by running across one). One thing I haven’t determined clearly is whether all 98/40’s had a sight hood or not. A Google search comes up about 50/50 - but I don’t know if that’s because they were made that way or removal was a common thing.

Is there any definitive source of info that proves one way or the other whether they were “standard” equipment? If they were, how much does it impact the value (assuming the rest of the gun is in good condition and mostly (if not all) matching?

Yes, they all had sight hoods.

The Hungarian hoods are impossible to find loose, but I don't know if having the hood adds much to the value. Maybe a bit I guess.

Someone has or has been making ones that will fit the grooves. But they're not exact copies. You can find them (when in stock) at this site.
