Gew 98 Sniper Rifle minus scope

Hello,
For your review, here is my genuine sniper rifle which came back along with a 98a from WWI. Your comments and questions are welcome? My biggest interest is two fold:

1. What maker and year(s) can it be narrowed down to?
2. Who has a scope and rings hiding away somewhere that will complete it?

Any other observations or comments also welcome.
Thanks,
Diehard

sniper

I have seen one almost exactly like that.. same mounts ect.. I think you will need to show the right side of the receiver so the proofs can be seen.. Some one like simson suhl or feldmutz can tell you.. Its a mid war gun I'd guess because of the double letter suffix.

proofs

Here are the proof marks and I couldn't help add one of the tiger stripes.

Hello,
That is a very nice Spandau sniper rifle!
Congratulations on that find.
With no locking lever on the rear mount it is very difficult to guess what scope came with that gun.
I only have two scopes recorded in my files within the "aa" serial range.
One is a renumbered/reissued early Gerard B3x scope, the other one a true Gerard B3x from about 1916.
That is why I would suggest to look for such a scope.
But as I said, this only can be a guess.
Thanks
