Gustloff KKW hanguard clip

Attempting to install handguard clip on a Gustloff KKW, clip a repro and very well made.
Looks like it will not fit unless I remove the lower barrel band, take off the handguard, pop the clip in and then
replace the handguard and barrel band, how does one properly remove the barrel band in order to do
this, should this be necessary, the pins on either side look almost permanent in nature,Thanks in advance,

I usually use a brass drift pin to take the lower band pin out, move the band up just enough to slide the handguard up and place the clip in. Occasionally the wood has changed shape enough that a tiny bit of widening the clip at its base is necessary. Of course, a gentle touch and wood cauls to avoid any marks would be a good thing.
