just so happen to have a safn 49 in 8mm.

but on the rife, the flash suppressor had been removed and a sleeve had been wielded in the suppressor in its place. i figure so the rifle could be imported. here is a pic of my safn 49.

The Egyptian FN49 was not issued with a muzzle brake/flash suppressor (with the exception of some few Egyptian rifles equipped with a telescopic sight). The muzzle cap should have two holes in it (probably so a special spanner could be used to remove it if necessary). However, some later, refurbished rifles may have the cap tac-welded using one or more holes. Either way, the step in the cap accommodates the muzzle ring of the bayonet and allows it to be mounted.
