Hey I can't post pictures until Monday so I'll try to describe it so bear with me. It's a leather box with the interior reinforced and has a coper plate on one side for the inside and on the outside it has too plugs like power outage ports and is marke carl zeiss jena and has a waffenamt over a 1940 date sorry I don't have a photo

well carl Zeiss made optical equipment. So it has to be for optics some optics were illuminated and had batteries and plugs. I can only assume ??? Post the photos when you can.
 
battery box for sure. To illuminate optics. Could be for an MG or other optics. Later on those cans were made of metal and Bakelite.
 
Interesting. It looks like it was for some sort of electrical equipment, like volt meter. Yes, Zeiss made optical gear, but they could have been contracted to make other things for the war effort as well, like US companies were.
