M.40 Lw. wire strand Q66, overpainted. Looks like the same helmet overpaint is on the wire. Wire helmets deserve significant skepticism. I go with my gut and liked this one.

It looks like rusted metal in the pics, which is what i thought it was. In hand the wire is actually copper.
