Owned five of these guns and I'd bet a significant sum this one is refinished!

The subtle finish variations you believe you see are a result of lighting and could be the steel content and heat treatment variations. That’s not Steyr MP.40 finish. That MP is quite reblued. You can tell by the roll pins, which are blued over due to the entire assemblies being dunked in a commercial postwar blue tank. The reblue job looks like an old hot dip with Oxpho Blue. That’s exactly what it looks like. Further, there are blued over scratches and perhaps even some micro-pitting. It’s a redipped piece.

I think you may be right. We know that the gun's been apart as the sling loop is mounted on the wrong side.

This is true. Some people have so much money it becomes abstract to them--I see this all the time in West Palm Beach, FL. If they want it they will spend what it takes to get it.

Still waiting in the ATF for my transfer but it’s gotta be coming any day now! Glad I got into one now because another two or three years of these prices and if would start to get to be just too far out of reach.
