“old” Ballistol turn to gel?

I recently noticed that ballistol from a particular small container had somewhat gelled when left overnight in a bore. I have another, pint can and both cans have what appear to be lot #s or date codes. The smaller can is particularly fragrant, wondered if the stuff ages more than petroleum based oils....?

...Shake it...It will outlast you whether you're 15 or 50.

I thought that Ballistol was designed to gel so it wouldn't run off.

I asked initially because
I had intended to refill the small container from the larger, & didn’t want to do so if the smaller one is “bad”, w/o rinsing it 1st. I’m SO used to the smell of Hoppe’s #9, that it barely smells to me, I think of it as “old man’s cologne”......... my Mrs’ reaction to the smell of the small container of ballistol was quite vocal.........
(of course, I had used it to oil up some brand new Yugo ammo pouches.....)
