You will probably get better results using a penetrating oil like Kroil rather than WD-40. WD-40 is a water displacing liquid, hence the “WD”. Let the penetrating oil do the removal work and let a strong-fabric rag or nylon bristle brush help get it up. Let it soak overnight.
