Do the numbers on the inside of the grips, release, and under the grips on the handles always match those on the outside and the scabbard?

It depends on maker, by some are the assembly numbers different, As mentioned there is no K98 bayonet, only S84/98.

Some of the marks you find under the grips, on the tang are presumed to be random, done by an assembler and mean nothing. Assembly line workers get bored and do random crap lol. As Andy said, some are assembly numbers. There can be the same assembly number on tang and on other parts in areas not seen when bayonet is assembled, that match each other but not the serial number. There are also assembly numbers that match serial number or use the last two digits of serial number. There can be the serial number or last two digits of serial number, and an assembly number. Oh and do not forget about the WaA stamps hidden there some times. The S84/98 bayonet gives us a lot to look at and study.
