nice

they all cant be mint... some where actually used in a war.. not a very easy rifle to find either !!! congrats

Mint rifles are certainly great to have. However, I have a special affinity for well used, well worn, battle rifles. You can be certain that they saw serious action. Some may say it is an ugly duckling but I would be proud to have that swan in my collection.

Amen to that....I concur.....My favorite kind of patina.

I like it also, I prefer combat looking rifles, makes you wonder what they did and where they were. GR

Not to be a spoiler, but perhaps it was just a victim of 7 decades of poor storage.

Fwiw I think the blue,or the process that dou was using that year may have a little to do with it.

I have a bolt mm 42dou that was in a butchered stock that I turned into an LSR shooter and it has a similar patina, and I have seen 2 other 42 dou's on GB and they too had a very similar thinning blue .....Could be coincidence as all were poorly stored , or all saw similar service , or dous bluing that year......

Just thought I would mention as it was an observation I had made.

I cannot argue that, could have got wet, bad blueing, I just like the look, then again 70 plus years of age can change things in ways we cannot explain or will ever know. GR

I like it...a LOT. Great rifle; thanks for sharing it with all of us!
Best,
Pat

I have a dou 42 98k that my Uncle sent home immediately following the capitulation of St. Nazairre, the occupied French port that housed U Boat pens right up until the war ended. Almost all of the original finish remains, but it is not an odd or non standard finish. It was obviously rust blued and otherwise built to a very high standard. While the bolt is mismatched, it is a slightly later dou bolt from approximately the same time period, as it is well made with oval vent holes. I surmise that the unit that surrended the gun in the French town of Le Braul had been equipped with a large number of dou 42s.

dou

I have to say dou's finish is as high as any other maker. The receivers are a real dark blue almost black. The barrels tend to have a plumb color on later examples. Every rifle is different as the conditions are different for each example.

My dou 42 posen rework

wood stock not laminate, and cleaning rod and sling marked 43, (not digging sling out} What does F2 or Fg stand for?
