Hi! I have been a member for some time but was trying to figure out this forum works and I'm not sure I have figured it out yet. HaHa.

My Step-father passed away in 1980 and my mother gave me his guns and one was a K98k Mauser. At the time I didn't pay much attention to it until I became friends with gentlemen who loved and collected 5 or 6 himself. My Step father had told me it was brought home from Germany at the end of the war. I have no paper work on it and my Mother passed some years ago and if theres were papers she may have discarded them after he passed. (I know that some people feel that if you don't have papers then its bogus. I did take it to a Firearms dealer near me and an Military Arms Specialist there stated that what I had was a Snipers gun because of the Death's Heads and SS Markings that I never even noticed. All parts are marked with the same Serial No. 1334 and Waffenamt "WaA63" The only thing missing are the cleaning rod and a scope. It does have the scope mount attached.

I will get some pictures soon. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. Posting photos of what you have is the only way to find out what you really have. Your experience with your local expert seems odd or you don't recall exactly what he said as the markings you describe have nothing to do with determining if something is a sniper.

I guess I forgot to mention that it has a scope mount attached with the serial No. 1334 on it,but there was no scope. From what I have read on sniper scopes example the zf41 this is the type of mount they use. Also missing is the cleaning rod
