Single Claw BNZ

Banned for Douchbaggery
Been a great week for me, but I need some ones help. Want to know who out there has my scope and rings? Picked up a BNZ 4 Single claw the other day and it needs its scope and rings back , It is number 5611 d. Should be a three piece BMJ tube. Any help would be appreciated. If no one speaks up ,my next step is finding a real scope and rings and any help there would be grateful . Regards Dave

Hello Dave. Could you post some pictures of your rifle? Would like to see it.

Yes, would love to see it! Must be the summer for SC, this is the 4th to pop up that I’ve heard of.

single claw

I will have to sit down and take some pics. Busy week for me also. Daughter had to pack up and get out of N.Carolina.

I know the Rifle You bought Dave its a really Nice Bolt MisMatch/UnNumbered Single Claw . To bad on the Rings but I believe the Scope was correct but the Rings were force matched .

SC Steyr

Dave you are correct ,the bolt is a mauser 42/655 armourers bolt with Steyr gas shield and striker and wr marked sniper safety, all un numbered. The scope looks good but it is In my opinion a high turret three piece that had the sun shield removed and a threaded front ring installed to shorten the scope length. Its in the 76xxx range , not 75xxx for SC. I have found a correct scope for the rifle but need rings too. So I went looking for the original scope and rings ,hope someone here has them. If I cannot find the original scope/rings , I will need to at least find an original set of rings. Or a complete set. Here s hoping to find them.
Regards Dave

Dave,
Nice rifle. Single Claws are very tough to find and one of my favorites. The majority of legit rifles we see are in the d block. My guess is that when Steyr got running again in 1944 after the bombings that they had a large sniper order to fill. Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
if you SC owners would please add a clear close up showing the addition barrel proof, I would very much appreciate.
Thanks
Wolfgang

Also, can you please post a clear picture of the inspection proof on top the barrel? We are still trying to locate a rifle with a clear enough proof to determine what the number is on it. Then we can figure out who assembled these for Steyr.

Thanks Peter. As you can see the stamp can not be made out (just like most single claws). We need to find an early rifle that perhaps has a clearer marking. Do appreciate you sharing though. What letter block is your rifle?

to me it looks like it could be a small letter "a" with a dot after it, an apostrophie, and then a Capitol "D" with a dot after it.

my rifle is in the "g" block.

Here a couple hope they are clear pics. The proof is really faint.

It really looks like there might be two different proofs, even taking worn/broken punches into account. I assume y’all have already, but if not trying to find a correlation between proofs and the inspection letters on the bases might be of interest. Maybe different assemblers or locations?? I don’t know the full time span or estimated production totals but is it even likely that one company/shop was able to fulfill all of the orders, especially given that it might be a potentially small company or companies? Here are some for comparison.

Dug out two very old pics of my SC. It is supposed to be a 43 rifle, j-Block and front base „A“ marked.

Reads as WaA followed by the number. Not sure on the number but seems to be something starting with a „3“ with a total of two digits?

Had some more safed, from those it looks more like 3 digit? Definitely the stamp was damaged.
