This CRA 1942 was sent back to a local army base at Burnham for evaluation in 1942/3.It appears to have had plenty of youse
and has a few miss matched parts.Early features include the horizontal cocking handle and bakerlite butt and grips.

super nice. These early 42's with the slabs side handle are awesome. Nearly as awesome as that MG34 with milled top cover you have

Nice MG42!! The barrel jacket vents and muzzle cone are not of the very earliest type, which must have ended very shortly before this one was produced

Do you have any more pictures from the bipod and particularly the head markings?

I'll bet Allied evaluators were completely befuddled when something that looked so cheaply made compared to our milled MG's worked so well.

Very nice. Great markings. That horizontal cocking handle must have been a real PITA. Thanks.

I have an early cocking handle in my stash. I actually like it better than the later style, though the later one protrudes less.

If you're use to US guns, it's more intuitive. Palm up and pull back, works like a charm.
