Wire helmets? How many do you need?

Rolls of the stuff in Russia and Eastern Europe, etc. This pic is purportedly of chickenwire / wire mesh found around German emplacements, used to shield against grenades, thus, purportedly original wire. However, it would seem that such wire around trenches would also interfere with outgoing grenades, which could be a big problem. I've never seen a period pic of such German "anti-grenade wire screens" in use. Thus, we can conclude that these are simply pics of old Euro wire left outside.

This stuff is everywhere in Europe. Every farm house has rolls of it sitting somewhere quietly rusting, and getting that "original patina" American collectors love.
