Hi All,

Wanted to share this one. I picked it up from a friend who was kind enough to offer it to me at a very fair price.

SN 43826, no suffix. Assembly #2 on the tang and front turret mount. There is a penciled #12 in the barrel channel. No scope, sadly. I doubt sling is original to the rifle.

While I'm not deep into snipers, it all passed muster to my eyes.

The metal is in great shape and lots of solder splash on the mounts. Dual tone in terms of finish. Blued receiver, bands and a some small parts, while the triggerguard assembly, bolt and other parts are phosphate.

The biggest knocks are on the wood. The right acceptance on the stock is crisp, but the underside may have been lightly sanded (or just exposed to moisture). The area behind the acceptance is showing signs of delamination or breakdown of the white glue from moisture. It's structurally sound, but a little ugly. The front of the stock was duffle cut behind the rear band and the front appears to have been spliced on from a different rifle. There are also some old tape marks on the stock and handguard, likely from before the stock was repaired.

Either way, despite the wood issues, it's a nice rifle and certainly not one you see every day.

Let me know if you want pictures of anything I missed. Also, please let me know if anyone has a scope rig laying around....

Nice Turret Rifle overall and its a C stock . I wanted to point out were as its a Mauser C Stock whomever repaired the front end , they did so incorrectly it should have a bayonet lug .

As to Ricks above comment about me knowing were the matching scope is or having it , if I did I would hook You up . Sorry I cannot help with this one

That’s a really nice (honest) HT! Original snipers aren’t easy to come by, so you should be very proud to own that one.
Thanks! I've got a couple Gew98 snipers, but this is my first proper k98k one.

Chris, thats quite the find! Looks to me like a really nice honest example. I think most members here would be more than stoked to have that one.
Thanks Hale-- issues aside, I'm pretty happy about it.
Nice rifle. I love the phosphate front base. Im sure there is a good way to clean the black areas of the stock. I’d ask Bruce. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, the metal was overall a big draw for me when I saw this one.
Very nice. Barrel code is 44D1?? ...... Hard to make out
Thanks--I realized my pic came out blurry, but it's a light strike to begin with. I'll get a better shot when i take it apart again.
Very nice score Chris! Bet there are a few guys who can help with a scope. DaveR probably has yours or knows where it is!
Thanks Rick!

Thanks Dave-- I appreciate you chiming in on it. I suspect the prior owner saw it was late war and assumed kriegsmodell.

If you ever do happen to come across scope that may be appropriate, please let me know. It'd be nice to complete it.

That isn’t a C stock, it’s a normal Mauser Kriegsmodell and has the right front end. That pic of the “C” marked part is true hand guard, correct as well.

Thanks Mike-- appreciate it. Glad i don't need to correct it. lol.

Nice pickup Chris, there should be a 12 stamped on the left side of the receiver under the wood line that corresponds to the 12 in the barrel channel. Whether that sling is original or not to the rifle, it’s a good one!

Your too modest. That’s a really nice rifle. I like it. I personally wouldn’t clean anything. I think you should put an Ajack HT scope on the rifle.
Thanks Brian, I'll keep a lookout for a good scope and rings. Let me know if you ever come across a spare. I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks! I believe there was, but apparently didn't snap a pic. I'll do that when I get a chance.

Also appreciate the scope recommendation

I would look for a late Kahles
CAD marked scope, but if Brian is offering you one of his late Ajack scopes I’d jump on it!
As you know I collect scopes and buy any good ones I see at fair prices. If I have a duplicate then I will sell or trade it to a friend. If it is not a duplicate then it is a trade for an item missing from my collection as well ( I need a Sauer Short Side Rail Rifle and a BLC Turret Scope). I'm a collector and not a dealer, so I don't buy things with the intent on flipping them for more money. I have another job that I'm better at than this and I have been at this for a little while now. I have seen some pretty tricky stuff with this WW2 German Sniper Collector stuff. Swimming with sharks sometimes. Ha Ha. So, if I get a spare scope and if someone asks me then I will let them have it, unless it is a rare variation. Right now, I only have one really nice Ajack High Turret Scope. I had a duplicate late war CAD that I just sold to a guy. I also, just helped a guy get that nice in my opinion Sauer High Turret from SOS. I liked that rifle, but had one already. I'm always looking for scopes and snipers. Chris never ask me about a scope and maybe he has another scope in mind. That is just what I think looks best on a Kriegsmodell Turret. I'm not likely to sell my Ajack Scope until I get closer to retirement. To me a nice scope is as desirable as a rifle to put it on. I spent 10 years looking for Single Claw Rifle to put my Single Claw Scope on. Patience and persistence are important.

Sure, Chris. I'll let you know what I see. BYF Turret Scopes are way more common than some of the other types. So, I don't think you'll have too long to wait.

Thanks Brian, these things have a way of showing up eventually. I'm in no hurry as the rifle is cool on its own merits. In this hobby if you don't have patience you won't get very far. I try to teach that to some of the new guys... Lol.
