Authenticating a JP Sauer HT sniper

Is there any experts that will "letter" a JP Sauer high turret rifle? Seems all correct all matching, comes from an old collection over 30 years old!!!

are you buying, selling or? the (only) way to get good info/advice is to post many clear photos to the site here. It can be a PITA because the software limits size, but its doable. before you do, look in the photo reference section of the forum for similar rifles & then take pix of the same things that you see there. THEN you’ll get the answers you seek. Most folks are collectors here, they’ll study your photos & offer honest opinions, good or bad.
The age of a collection sadly has little bearing on its authenticity.

No-one has answered my question. Is there anyone who letters or can provide info on a sniper rifle, that has an reputable following?

I have found many German /axis collectors who will say your "whatever is inferior" and if not in the book, or outta the norm= fake , whatever!
Please advise!

The point the guys re trying to make is if it came from that recent auction, it's already been reviewed and vetted by the sniper guys here, they can save you some time with some pics...and you have some of the world's heavy hitters when it comes to German snipers right here on the board.

Wow, this guy is a real piece of work. You want a straight answer. Here it is. YES, there are sniper authentication experts here that literally write the books and/have researched all the trends and documentation.

Now the question is, will you post pics so the people who know their stuff can authenticate or will you beat around your entitled bush?

Im sorry, but it seems you want help with conditions, it doesn’t work like that… either post pics and take the results of the outcome or do your research and private message the “sniper experts”. We have plenty here that are accredited in identifying real vs fake. A 30 year collection means nothing when it comes to k98k snipers since out of 100 examples, 99 are fake.

And… do you prefer people who know their stuff, have made a career out of this to lie to you?? So that your ego can feel better? if it’s out of the norm, doesn’t follow the documented trends, the serializing is off, if the mount is a repro, then it’s a fake. German WW2 weapons did not go through “whatever goes” policy. Sniper rifles even less so and since you’re talking JP Sauer HT, it’s fully recognized. Even extremely late war weapons like the vk98 are thoroughly documented in regards to their production/assembly. We literally have official German documents that verify subcontractor and supply chain anomalies which result in scarce or rare rifle variations. The issue is that people who don’t understand these FACTS end up but-hurt because they buy the story, not the rifle. Every couple of weeks somebody new goes through this scenario on this forum. They pay a ton of money, believed the BS and then find out that it’s not out of the norm, it’s actually a fake/forgery.

On one hand, yes, the OP is a jerk in the way he asks things. On the other, if he is looking at something rare for sale, it’s understandable he does not want many others to know about it and buy it from under his nose . It’s a catch 22 unfortunately .

I’m confused too. If you ever found someone to write a letter from providing them photos, they are an idiot. Sounds like this guys life experience is buying bad guns that get trashed from “expUrTZ” online. I’m offended.

I think this must be what you seek. I will send this to you with some sandpaper and number stamps. Just change the serials on the weapon to match the certificate. You sound serious enough that I will go out on a limb and vouch for its authenticity.

I suspect you may be referring to this particular rifle here that recently was auctioned: https://bid.anewdayauctions.com/pas...-details/6c9d3099-8f9e-40f2-8844-b2e40144b558

To me the stock and the handguard are not original to the rifle. Note the stock is a late Kriesmodell pattern without takedown disc - something I have never seen with a J. P. Sauer K98k rifle. Additionally, the serial number inside the stock channel has been scrubbed and restamped. J. P. Sauer & Sohn originally used scripted fonts with serifs inside the barrel channels. Especially worth pointing out - the 4 should be closed, whereas the one in the stock here is a modern one that is open.

As a result to this that rifle with serial 412m is an original J. P. Sauer & Sohn K98k High Turret Sniper rifle that has a rare matching numbers mount, but features a force matched incorrect stock.

There were loads of items having various degrees of issues in that auction, many being outright fakes. I fully anticipated this rifle would be bid up by some suckers who were mesmerized by the provenance as described by the auction house:

"This collection is from an estate that has been untouched for 25 years. The collection is primarily WWII German Nazi era. Uniforms, hats, helmets, boots, insignia, medals, flags, books, bayonets, knives & more, All original, no reproductions, all cloth has been checked with a black light. Thousands of rounds of 8mm ammunition and over 150 firearms. We have had several local experts review items and we are under the believe everything offered is authentic."

Guns aside, to me the most outlandish results were of the two SS tunics which were total fakes/fantasies (and very poor ones at that). One sold for $6500, the other for $8500 (plus buyers premiums). It's even more pathetic knowing it involves more than one bidder to achieve these results. There is no shortage of idiots having large wallets and little knowledge.
