A question on rarity, value and the marketplace

I am just the opposite, if it is just a picture on a computer screen, my auction bid is never going to be higher then 50% of what I would pay in person, without the ability to hold something in my hand's and examine it first, it need's to be too good of a deal to pass up,

AH, thanks, yes that makes sense, as far as fixing it goes, I am of the opinion that the damage is done, repairing it does no further harm, and is an improvement, any idea what the value of mine is? I have been told $100 to $200 due to the duffel cut,

there appears to be a "7,?" above the 1920 on the receiver visible in the last pic, (I never noticed it before today) I will look closer with a magnifying glass for any other marks, it appears that every part hast the full 4 digit serial number, or the last two numbers, stamped on it the brand...

I have learned more about my Mauser this week, than in the 30 years I have owned it, thanks the P.w.B. is on the right side of the stock, the 1920 is stamped on the left side, and on the receiver, both 1920 stamps are larger than the P.w.B. stamps,

the marks are very hard to see, and not a very good camera I am afraid, so these were the best I could get

it is also marked "P.w.B." on the stock and butt plate, (I believe these are some type of police marking?) as this rifle nears 100 years old, I begin to question if it is a good idea to shoot it or not? I also have a sporterized 1916 DANZIG Gew, that I could shoot instead, (being sporterized I...

    Duffle cut repair (pics)

the cut is very thin, and perfectly straight, if you close your eyes and run your fingers across it you can't tell it is there, almost as if it was made that way, I have owned this rifle for 30 years and fired it many times, the stock feels as solid as a one piece stock,

Erfurt 1915 with "M" stamp on the stock from Turkey

nice to see pictures of another 1915 ERFURT Kar98, out of curiosity I looked at mine, sorry I can not help with your question, as mine has no "M" stamped in the sling recess, I can however provide a picture of the front sight and stacking hook of my 1915 ERFURT Kar98 for you

    Duffle cut repair (pics)

interesting, I am just learning about duffel cut's, I never knew why someone cut the stock on mine, or when it occurred, as far as repairs go, mine was probably repaired soon after being removed from said duffel, unfortunately it is a VERY visible repair

    E. Pack&s.

marked E. PACK&S. on one side, (E. Pack & Söhne) "180" on the other side, and 37 on the back of the blade, (Mfg date?) no marks on the sheath, so it may not be original, I believe the grips were changed at some point during WWII, as it now has Bakelite, and I believe it would have come with...

funny thing, before I found this forum I had never even seen a picture of another one, now I find they are all too common, I believe every third thread in this section is about one, ah well, that's life, A little history on mine, it was found some 30 years ago, in a pawn shop, and bought it...

    1915 Erfurt K98a

interesting, I also have a 1915 ERFURT Kar98 and have often wondered how many were produced, 312,000 is a lot more than I would have thought, it is a bit disheartening to read that they are not worth much, none the less I am still fond of mine,
