I'd say one of the original mauser manufacturers are probably more collectible given their obvious attention to quality. Like anything 1942 and earlier from Oberndorf am Neckar or Borsigwalde. I'm not as much a fan of the later war models.

I have one just like the one on the first page, but probably not as good shape. The Ñ marking just above the trigger indicates it was made in 1943. During ww2 the German high command didn't see the need to waffenmark these imported pistols. Apparently they were used for police, supply and rear...

Attached are pics of a recent acquisition. Does anyone know if the Russians electro-penciled the safety like in the pic below? What other info can you share about the rifle in general? Thanks in advance.

What i love about soldbuch's is they track everything about that particular soldier.

And how and where did he get a hold of the rifle? Did he disarm a German soldier, find it in the field etc? Knowing all these details makes the rifle that much more collectible and attractive. If you don't mind sharing that is.

Thanks, interesting. I hadn't thought of that. I know it was a Canadian vet bring back as I got it from the family member of the vet after he passed.

So I understand there were two dates stamped on the Steyr receiver in 1944, the "4" and "44". From what I've read the 44 were apparently the last of an SS contract. Is my rifle below a possible ss rifle? Not sure what to look for since I'm new to this. Thanks
