You have helped me to decide to just leave the rifle as it is and not do the re- bluing. I had to clean the rust off and only used nylon scotch-brite pads however someone had used more abrasive products a long time...

Well reloaded 5 different weights of powder and off soon to try them at the range.
Not had much accuracy with my shop bought rounds so been reloading with an experienced friend.
Will let you know how I get on and hopefully be able to download some more images soon.

Been to the range a few times now and shot the rifle maybe 30 times.
Its definitely a big difference to my .22s.
Trying different loads and bullets tomorrow so hopefully get it on target soon.
I find it easier to shoot from a standing position than on a rest, is that what others find ?

Other markings I can understand are underneath the breech end of the barrel, there is C with K above it and BO 38.
There is an S on the top of the barrel just behind the rear sight.

I just got a 1902 Erfurt Mauser 98 that has been sat in a French attic since WW2. Complete and in good condition apart from a broken front band clip.
