Seems like all mausers have the same size front sight dovetail. I solved this problem by getting a Swedish M96 front site in +2.5. I removed the original numbered front site (for re-installation) and installed the Swedish sight. The contour of the Swedish site is different (the top of the...
M96 front sights come in different heights. I have a +3 on my shooter Gew. Pretty much right on with my reloads. It does have a flat sight and I considered re-contouring it but thought why bother?
The Germans after occupying part of Belgium and Pieper factory assembled around 1500 of these in 1915. They have either the apple-diamond proof or are un-proofed. They are in only the 15000 to 16500 serial number range. Presumably after expending the parts supply, production was dropped...
I have an Arsenal rebuilt SPANDAU 1915 with a perfect barrel. It is matching with a renumbered bolt (only on the bolt ball not the other bolt parts). I have shot 1000's of rounds through it the last few decades. It is reasonably accurate (3-2.5 MOA at 100 yards off a bench with my reloads...

Here's another. It is an ERFURT W 00' marked to the 1st Garde Grenadier Regiment. Watch the Forum Trader as it will be offered along with a few other Regimentally Marked Imperial bayos shortly.
My too cents -
I have collected by far the majority of my adult life. Certainly I have witnessed prices creep-up into the stratosphere. That said I have a simple rule. That is; "Make exceptions for exceptional pieces". As Loewe said above an exceptionally common rifle in an exceptionally...
This rifle is for the collector who wants nothing short but the best and has the checkbook to pursue it. At the very first MAX show in St. Louis there was a 98a (also ERFURT 1917) which was in comparable, factory fresh, condition. The dealer wanted $1800 for. Mind you this was in the 1980s a...
One real positive with a luger is that it doesn't take up the storage space of a Gew! Nice piece. I still have my first collector grade luger I bought in 1974 for $165. Oddly it is a DWM 1913 also!
