Hello everyone and thanks for adding me.
I was looking some infos concerning K98 on the web and I found this very interesting forum. Can't wait to learn more about this iconic rifle! Hereafter some details of our 1941 "family Mauser". I don't know very much about its history. It belongs to my Grandpa and since I recall it has always been in his bedroom just beside the nightable :)
It has the same number stamped on each part and "Mauser werke AG Oberndorf a.N." is written. The Wermacht brand is stamped as well. Enjoy and let me know if you have some interesting infos that could help me to know a little bit more about this piece of history.

You have a Portugese contract k98k made by Mauser Oberndorf in 1941.Need more pics, but if all matching nos. as you say, it is a nice rifle to inherit.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply Gunnut!
Maybe I am wrong, but I found some infos about Portuguese contract, it seems that was a 7,92mm.
My grandpa's rifle has 8x57IS stamped (or JS, not very clear). Does it make any sense to you? Thank you again

The 7.92 is the bore diameter, 8x57 is the cartridge it fires. 8x57j would be the earlier cartridge with a .318 diameter bullet, later, not sure exactly what year the bullet diameter and type were changed to the .323 diameter spitzer type bullet and designated the 8x57js, so your rifle fires the modern 8x57 mm Mauser cartridge.

Hi PANFO and welcome,
your rifles has some postwar marking, as "Cat. No. 1252" and "8x57 JS" are Italian National Firearms Test Bench markings, right side of the barrell just behind the rear sight. On the left side of the barrell just above the serial number, seems to be present other marking that appears to be German Munich Test Bench markings. All these markings affect the overall value of the rifle, since original untouched rifles must not have it.
