So I recieved the dot '44 I'd posted a link to earlier this week and subsequently sent it back Monday. What I thought was a light gauge aluminum cover in the sling recess was actually a heavy section of aluminum grafted deep into the stock. The stock was also sanded much heavier than expected and the bolt shroud was very heavily polished. I called Collectors Firearms whom I've bought numerous guns from in the past, to see if they would negotiate the price and was told they don't do that. The rifle had some really nice things going for it but $1300 was more than I'm willing to spend on a gun in that shape. It occurred to me that the sling slot plate may have been a related war souvenir grafted into the stock. The backside has a familiar green paint which looks like a shade you sometimes see in aircraft cockpits. Regardless, I sent it back. I have many more photos if someone's interested in buying it when they recieve it tomorrow. The sight hood by the way was a homemade piece, possible an extractor collar?
