imho it is phony. On the checkered side, the countersunk screw holes. On a real one , the checkering stops before the countersink starts. On this one the countersink goes right into the checkering. The same is true for the backside.
Known real one for comparison. Noter that the checkering is considerably different. I'm not saying the one shown above is fake or real because I know very little about these things. I only know that the one I show here was validated by Bruce Karem.
good eye Peter.. The way the holes are poked through and the radius created is specific . Done the same way as a regular butt plate. The repro the whole is cut with a chamfer tool bit.
