S/27 1936 Kar98k

Hey all,

Very new and eager looking to get into the Mauser and WW2 collection hobby. There's a local shoppe holding a beat up but mostly matching 1936 S/27 Kar98k, bayonet included - most everything aside from the safety and bolt seem to be matching, though it also has import markings. Missing a screw from the bottom well plate. I was hoping to get some insight into its authenticity and value going into a sale, with an intent to get strong bearings as I get into the hobby. What are other points to look for that I may have neglected?

Waffenampts on the matching portions seem appropriate with "280" from referencing online codes.

Thank you!

Look at the bore… I see an inter ordnance import mark. That most likely came out the recent Ethiopia import, and I’m betting the bore is not so good. That, and the metal condition under the wood line may not be all too good, but that I’m just guessing.

It looks like an honest gun, but as is unfortunately standard with most of these recently imported out of Ethiopia, they have issues. There’s almost no bluing left too. All in all I think $1200 can get you more than this…

As stated before, I think you can get a nicer rifle that is mismatched, with a nicer stock or bluing for around the $1200 range.
