bnz 43 single rune 9524

Run into this one in an auction house. Do not have much experience on SS rifles, but seems legit to me for what is shown. Thoughts?

Gusen made receiver, numbered bolt body and safety, unnumbered bolt sleeve and cocking piece, unnumbered bands. No pictures but triggerguard should be numbered and matching, with unnumbered floorplate.

Sorry pictures are the best I can get as of now.

Hi Stefano, overall it looks promising, the patina/rust is homogeneous. No indication of the barrel code ?

I agree with G d'O comments. Serial number on barrel with no suffix. No top final acceptance. Also, would like to know what the complete barrel code is but it might not be seen unless disassembled.

Unfortunately, do not have the chance to disassemble as for now. If i recall correctly bnz 43 (large font without dot) with single rune should be one of Gusen made receivers in early 43. Throughout that year single rune marking should have been stopped in Gusen, correct me if I'm wrong. Other than that, barrell markings sure are something you should know.

I think you're correct in your assumptions. Large bnz/rune/43. No period after the z and no acceptance on the receiver right side would all be correct. These are heavily clustered together earlier in the contract before the serial number moved to the barrel.

Some time passed, went to the auction and got the rifle.

Every marked part matches serial 9524: receiver, bolt body, safety, triggerguard, rear sight base, rear sight leaf, handguard, stock barrell channel.
Some e/77 markings are present on rear sight base and rear sight leaf.
Barrel markings: 92, circle W, Ru, e/623
V7 marking is present on right side of the receiver under wood line and stock is double marked WaAC10 externally (unfortunately sanded).

Congratulations, it’s a very nice rifle !

Congrats! Looks like you got a righteous early contract piece.

When I said it was an 'early' piece, I didn't realize just how early. Looking at the serial study (I saw you linked this one) it's probably in the 1st five on the list.

Op: you think the stock is sanded?

The auction house pictures look like a nice untouched stock to me.

Your pictures being more clear. Maybe.. ever so slightly… I know sometimes it’s hard to judge stocks in photos. In person examination is always the best. It doesn’t look sanded to me though, imho.

Nonetheless, great rifle! What did it go? If you are willing to share.

Maybe not heavily, but yes to me. Looking at the WaAC10 markings they are barely visible and very faded. Anyway, for sure not the worst I have ever seen.

Very nice rifle for sure. Congratulations.
What does the “B” on the heel represent? Its not one I am familiar with.

Nor am I, maybe someone could chime in on that.

Seen your message only now, good observation.
