Very pleased to have found this forum. I recently moved to Tennessee from Texas.
I have 1 Mauser k98 ( ar 44 ) had it for 10 years or so and now that I’m retired I am looking to collect more of these amazing rifles and learn all that I can about them.
I also have an old Argentinian cavalry Mauser and a Turkish Mauser. Needless to say the k98 is my favorite. I’m looking for any kinds of books on the subject. The only one I have is Robert Ball’s “Mauser Military Rifles of the world.” Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome. You have found the right place to be. Honest members here that know their stuff. Like to see pic of your rifle if possible.

Could be a number of factors, got wet, rusted & then cleaned, could be in the metallurgy, as steel is a complex mixture of elements & grain structure varies greatly depending on ingredients & processing methods. Nice either way.
